The nation's largest companies are still seeking skilled professionals, but the competition has grown tougher for the jobs that are available.
This week, the Seattle Times reported that Microsoft had increased its full-time global employment by 4.8 percent between last June and November, illustrating that opportunities are still available to those with the right skills and qualifications.
"Microsoft is still hiring, but they're being really selective in who they hire," the newspaper quoted graduate student Andrew Putnam as saying.
The newspaper noted that Google.com is also still hiring, but at a slower rate than in the past, and that some candidates may be able to get a foot in the door at their desired companies by lining up internships for the short term. One such example was Intel.
The current job climate may also give more MBA students an incentive to explore options in fields like technology as opposed to more traditional finance studies. A growing number of MBA graduates have also been lending their talents to startup companies or even focusing on starting their own businesses.
