People with advanced training in the healthcare industry often find out that an MBA degree opens up more unique opportunities than ever.
This week, the American Medical Association's AMNews ran a profile of Dr. Majin Castillo, who started a business that began as an idea for an MBA class project.
Dr. Castillo, an internal medicine specialist, reportedly developed "Sassy Soles," an insert that helps women keep their feet from sliding while wearing high-heeled shoes. The products are sold at several stores in Texas and on his company's website.
"I developed the concept of Sassy Soles in December 2007 during my MBA studies. I had to come up with a fake company and a business plan for it in a business development course," the publication quotes Dr. Castillo as saying.
If you're interested in pursuing an MBA degree, this is just one of many examples of the unique opportunities that an advanced business education can provide. A growing number of MBA students are building on past career experiences or longstanding interests to pursue unique specialties, from luxury marketing to energy management as they weather the recession and train for the leadership jobs of tomorrow.
