executive MBA programs remain focused on core business subjects, but are also offering many more options in areas like entrepreneurship, communications and ethics.
The Executive Executive MBA Council's annual membership survey found that EMBA programs continue to require most of their in-class hours in traditional areas like finance, accounting and international business.
However, other study areas are receiving a growing amount of emphasis. For example, class hours devoted to ethics increased by 124 percent between 2002 and 2008 and those focused on leadership increased 64 percent in that period.
Also making big gains were entrepreneurship (105 percent), professional development (183 percent), and communications (81 percent).
In other findings, the survey found the average executive MBA student to be 36.5 years old with 12.8 years of work experience and 8.2 years of management experience. The average program length is 20 months.
According to the EMBA website, those who receive the degrees generally see a 21 percent salary increase to an average of $130.056.
If you are interested in studying for an executive MBA degree, there may be no better time than the present. Course offerings are more diverse than ever, and the economic downturn has led many other professionals to sharpen their skills at business programs around the country and online.
