Despite the current recession, many companies are still looking to fill high-level positions - they're just doing so at a slower pace, according to recent reports.
Recently, Gatehouse News Service spoke with several employment experts in the Northeast who report that employers are responding to the current recession by taking extra care to select the right candidates for their higher level positions.
"When an employer does have a role that is in high demand that marketers and creatives are going to covet, they can name price, be selective, protract the process. It's a bevy of opportunity for them to find great people," Leanne Owens of the Aquent talent agency told the news service.
Another agent for Aquent told Gatehouse that there are currently many qualified candidates for top positions, while more entry-level ones are typically filled within a week or two. The report noted that companies still particularly feel the need to fill positions in areas like IT, biotechnology, healthcare, and the environment.
Given the increasingly competitive nature of the job market, now may be an ideal time to pursue an MBA degree either online or in the classroom. Candidates who earn their degrees will be better positioned to contend for the high level jobs they want when the economy begins to improve.
