Students working toward their MBA degrees are discovering that a little creativity can take them very far on their chosen career path.
The Charlotte News and Observer recently spoke with MBA student Jess George about a Creativity In Business course that she recently took. The course reportedly featured activities like journaling, poetry, and watercolors.
"I think a lot of business folks might say creativity is so wishy-washy, when in fact, it takes a very structured discipline to become even moderately good," George told the newspaper, which also said that she found the course made her a better worker and listener.
In fact, developing your creativity may be one of the wisest things you can do for your career and in the longer term, for your employer.
"Traditional business models no longer hold (and) the customer demands innovation. Creative leadership is required for innovation," Linda Naiman of CreativityatWork.com recently told Yahoo.com career columnist Melissa Ezarik.
The News and Observer also noticed that companies hoping to stay competitive are likely to be drawn to "creative problem-solvers" as opposed to those who "play it safe." The newspaper also cited a recent study where more than 70 percent of employers called creativity to be one of their primary concerns - even though less than 10 percent of them actually offer any creative training.
