This week's announcement that General Motors plans to build a factory in Michigan for next-generation automobile parts gives a preview of the jobs that MBA graduates and other business professionals will be taking on in the coming years.
According to a recent Associated Press report, GM plans to open a facility to create battery packs for its upcoming Volt electric car. The plan also reportedly calls for a 31,000 square foot battery lab that will aim to train young engineers for the emerging electric car industry.
The report quoted Tony Posawatz of General Motors as predicting that the planned facility would attract more companies that handle parts and other needs for electric cars and other next-generation vehicles.
The Volt is expected to hit U.S. markets late next year amid stiff competition from other rivals like Toyota and Honda, which already offer popular hybrid vehicles.
For ambitious professionals who know how to recognize an opportunity, facilities such as the GM one are just one small part of a future that will be increasingly oriented towards technology - especially in the rapidly growing area of environmentally friendly technologies and clean energy.
With that in mind, this may be the perfect time to begin working on an MBA degree, either online or in a classroom setting, with an eye on taking advantage of the many new opportunities that are expected to emerge.
