Professionals who graduate from MBA programs will face a noticeably different business landscape in the coming years that will require them to be better-rounded than ever.
That's the conclusion of a recent column in Business Week, which compares the current financial atmosphere to the recession of the early 1990s and the changes it produced.
"The ideal MBA candidate will probably be a well-rounded leader who understands the basics and possesses corporate finance, marketing, and operations knowledge," writes Eitan Ahimor, going on to say that "leadership, transparency of skills and flexibility" will be major factors for job candidates.
Another important tool for success will be risk management, writes Ahimor, due to the expected regulatory climate and investor reactions to excessive risk taking that helped fuel the current recession.
Overall, he predicts that many business schools will go back to the classic model of producing skilled leaders and managers, following a period where "the business world pressured this model to adjust to market trends."
For those who have what it takes to be effective leaders and sound decision makers, an MBA degree may be the perfect complement to your skill set.
