Hoping to make the classrooms in their MBA programs a closer reflection of the real world, business schools are reaching out to women in an attempt to convince more to apply for MBA degrees.
According to an article in the U.S. News and World Report, women represent only about 30 percent of MBA enrollment, but there is an active push among business schools to move those numbers up.
Companies "are trying to build the most diverse workforce," Elissa Ellis-Sangster tells the news source. Ellis-Sangster is the executive director of the Forté Foundation, an organization found in 2001 to promote gender equity in business schools. While law and medical schools were getting increasing numbers of women applicants, business schools were not, inspiring Forté to focus on outreach to women, answering the questions about financing, work-life balance and career opportunities involved in pursuing an MBA.
The world is changing and the workforce is becoming more diverse. Women are being actively recruited into business; doors opened and opportunities offered. If you have been considering going after an MBA degree, it might be time to strike while the iron is hot.
