If you're interested in pursuing an MBA degree in the health care industry, chances are you're making a promising long-term career choice.
This week, Business Week magazine noted that the incoming Obama administration 's health care agenda could end up fueling demand for more management jobs in the industry.
"This is an attractive time for students to consider careers in health management," Lisa Goldstein of Moody's told the magazine.
Health care reportedly comprises about 15 percent of the U.S. economy and that number is projected to grow to 19.5 percent in the next decade - however, Business Week notes that MBA students have traditionally flocked to the higher paying careers that until recently characterized the financial sector.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms that administrative and management careers in health care are projected to grow substantially in the coming years. Part of this growth will be tied to the relatively recession-proof nature of the industry.
The bureau's Occupational Outlook Handbook expects a 16 percent jump in nationwide demand for health care managers and executives between now and 2016, with particularly emphasis on managers who are able to contain costs and promote efficiency.
