Many MBA students are reportedly getting firsthand insight into the importance of networking as high unemployment rates linger.
A recent article in Business Week describes some of the efforts business schools are taking to help graduates find jobs through alumni organizations and other forms of networking.
According to the report, about half of Notre Dame's MBA graduates got their job through an alumni source, while at the University of Pennsylvania, as many as 60 percent of MBA graduates could wind up with jobs gained through networking.
"The network has never been more important," Kevin Knox of Southern Methodist University told the publication.
Even in better economic times and for all kinds of professionals, networking is generally emphasized as an important way to search for positions that don't necessarily appear in job postings.
