Computer business simulations are an increasingly important part of teaching at MBA schools, as new technology is used to teach the decision-making skills necessary to earn an MBA degree.
"Simulations are becoming increasingly important in business education because they create a reality for students that can't be taught by textbooks," Dr Annette Halpin, vice president of the Association for Business Simulation and Experiential Learning, told CNN.
The simulations can be used to offer students a chance to try various business decisions such as finance, accounting, marketing or human resources, learning which fields they need to hone their skills in.
Greg Warman, founder of ExperiencePoint, emphasized that opportunity to train in an interview on the blog, Experiential eLearning.
"Unlike musicians and athletes however, business people aren't afforded the luxury of practice," he said. "They tackle work situations armed with business or performance objectives, but rarely with personal development objectives. As a consequence the path to performance improvement can be tortuous."
Business simulations can also be online, allowing for people pursuing a distance learning MBA to get the same advantages the simulations bring to the on-campus experience. With technology offering so many new options to learn and practice, isn't it time you considered an MBA?
