Many people who complete MBA degrees will contemplate starting a business at some point in their careers. With that in mind, U.S. News and World Report recently examined the best states for entrepreneurs to get started.
At the top of the list was Washington State because of its low tax burden, emphasis on energy efficiency and strong manufacturing sector, among other factors. Virginia and Colorado rounded out the top three, because of their highly educated workforces and reasonable tax situations.
The remaining states, in order, were Texas, Nevada, Utah and Florida. Most of these states made the list because of a combination of workforce education, forward-looking policies and low tax and regulatory burdens. Several of these states have no personal incomes tax, while the report also cited Florida's strength in exports and Utah's track record of seeing new jobs created to replace those in more struggling business areas.
The list was compiled using data from the Kaufman Foundation's New State Economy Index, as well as the Small Business Survival Index. Many states offer further information on starting businesses on their official websites.
If you are interested in pursuing your own entrepreneurship goals, thorough research combined with the knowledge obtained through an MBA can be a great way to boost your chances of success.
