A Detroit mayoral candidate has ended up in the news over allegations that he falsely claimed to have an MBA degree.
A recent report in the Detroit Free Press said that Dave Bing, who was also a star in the National Basketball League, had claimed that he received an MBA degree from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan.
The newspaper quoted Bing as saying that he "misspoke" on the matter, and that he had also received an undergraduate degree from Syracuse in 1995 instead of 1966, which was long publicly said to be the case. The candidate, 65, is reportedly participating in a May 5 runoff election.
The story helps illustrate the importance of an MBA degree and the credibility it gives to those who earn it. People who earn MBA degrees have a wide variety of career options to strive for when they graduate, with more and more former students putting their degrees to different uses every day.
