Although some critics feel that MBA programs are boys clubs, more women are getting in on the action and are choosing to further their degrees. The U.S. Department of Education reported that there has been a 75 percent increase in women pursuing an MBA in the past decade.
Women who are choosing to pursue their MBAs have higher positions on their mind, according to Forbes. The news provider reports that a recent survey by research firm, Universum, found that approximately 22 percent of female MBAs hope for a career in marketing or advertising. Additionally, 20 percent of respondents had aspirations of management consulting and 11 percent felt that financial services was part of their career path.
"Women want to get to the c-level," Tonya Olpin, executive director of the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA), told the news provider. "Going for the MBA is how they make it happen. It opens up a lot of opportunities."
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in sectors such as marketing and advertising rely on continuing education, with some companies paying for their workers to go back to school. Already possessing an MBA degree may be a draw for potential employers.
