Some companies believe that individuals who possess MBA degrees are ahead of the pack when it comes to having qualifications and a background knowledge in their field. This could be one of the reasons that so many MBAs are chosen for esteemed spots on the board of directors.
Finisar Corporation recently appointed Michael C. Child, who has an MBA degree, to its board of directors. The company, which specializes in fiber optic subsystems for communication applications, chose Child for his expertise, as well as his history with the company.
He has served on more than 20 board of directors, including Finisar from 1998 to 2005.
"I look forward to having Mike back on the Board," said Jerry Rawls, Finisar's executive chairman of the board. "His background and credentials are impressive. The fact that he joins us with a working knowledge of the company will enable him to make an immediate contribution in terms of guiding our company going forward."
If you're interested in joining a board of directors, an MBA may be able to help you achieve that goal.
