Some who obtain MBA degrees have extremely competitive attitudes that would have been more appropriate for the pre-credit crunch climate. Today, MBA students are encouraged to develop gentler, more socially aware business skills in order to succeed.
According to an article in Business Week, some California schools are adapting their programs to students' preferences and general state of society, with the intention that students somehow give back, even if they do eventually head one of the world's largest companies.
For example, one of many MBA programs at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, requires its students to take certain workshops and complete self-reflection tasks, the news provider reports, in order to let them best see the bigger social picture.
MBA students thus take a stronger leadership role in their projects, and their work is intended to continue to benefit its recipients after the student has graduated.
One student in Cornell's program is continuing work on the Johnson Board Fellows project, where MBA students work on local nonprofit boards to help advise residents and contribute their expertise, the news wire explains.
Such MBA program may inspire those who hope to enter the nonprofit world, but are eager to study business at a higher, more competitive level, prompting their pursuit of an MBA degree.
