A recent survey finds that 78 percent of MBA students would like to see a greater emphasis on sustainability and corporate responsibility in light of the current business climate.
The survey from Net Impact and the Aspen Institute also found that 90 percent of the MBA students surveyed believe that one key contributor to the economic crisis was a focus on the short term over the long term.
Also, 31 percent said they believe that corporations are working to better society, while 57 percent said they were re-thinking their career objectives in light of the financial meltdown.
For example, the report found that 29 percent of those surveyed are now more interested in government jobs, while 26 percent were interested in management consulting and entrepreneurship.
Finance was fourth on the list with 22 percent more interested, but the industry also saw the biggest drop off in interest, with another 25 percent saying they were less inclined to pursue careers in finance. A smaller number of those pursuing MBA degrees were more interested in careers with nonprofits or in accounting.
