The business sector has come under fire after the economic crisis of 2008 because critics believe that a lack of ethics led to the eventual recession. As a result, some MBA programs are feeling the brunt of the blame.

MBA programs are struggling to improve their offerings to ensure they are seen in a positive light after being accused of not having enough focus on ethics, according to Smart Business. Some MBA program directors told the news provider that they have been working diligently to silence their critics and focus on the new business world.

"A lot of people have MBAs that were used to enter into investment banking and consulting careers, and the economic collapse has created a lot of questions about our curriculum," Tom Kennedy, director of an MBA program, told the news provider. "Another challenge we face is that a lot of people are recruiting people without MBAs because they’re concerned about trying to retain them."

Some MBA programs are training their students to think about the consequences of their actions. According to BusinessWeek, many MBA programs are beginning to have their graduates recite pledges similar to the Hippocratic oath so they promise to maintain their ethics while making business decisions.
