MBA students who are interested in the environment are finding more and more demand in the business world for the skills they acquire.
This week, Business Week examined the trend of business schools "greening" their MBA curriculums - in part because jobs in clean technology and renewable energy are some of the hottest opportunities in the current economy.
"Jobs might be drying up on Wall Street, but not in the clean technology sector," Catherine Wolfram of UC-Berkeley's Haas School of Business told the magazine.
The report notes that UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School has offered sustainable enterprise as part of its MBA program for a decade now, while a similar program at the Presidio School of Management in San Francisco has seen more than a tenfold jump in enrollment in recent years.
Students who follow such courses of study should be well-positioned to find new career opportunities in the coming years. Renewable energy companies are expected to make their mark on the economy, and well-trained business professionals will be needed to help move these companies to new levels of success and development.
The traditional business world also has a growing need for people who are schooled in sustainability issues, such as sustainability coordinators and managers in general.
