For many people in the business world, dealing with crisis and controversy are common events that can make or break a career. With that in mind, it's only natural that some students are getting some firsthand knowledge of these crucial skills.
The University of Michigan's Ross School of Business recently wrote about its Ross Leadership Initiative Crisis Challenge, which has teams of MBA students competing against each other in a virtual crisis atmosphere.
The scenario these students dealt with at January's event had them playing executives and communication officials getting peppered with hostile questions amid little preparation time from faculty members and actual local media members.
"As business students we are used to coming up with an answer to every question and trying to give the best answer to every question. But in a press situation there are times when you have to pull back and be a little more reserved," MBA student Sameer Soleja was quoted as saying.
Students who pursue MBA degrees will find a growing variety of learning experiences and specialties to study, no matter which program they choose. As the business world becomes more global and complex, training like this is invaluable for the business leaders of tomorrow.
