The economy is leading more MBA graduates to seek out jobs in the nonprofit sector, according to Forbes magazine.
The interest in nonprofits may be largely driven by the recent decline in jobs in other, more traditional sectors for MBA holders, like finance.
"There are less people recruiting on campuses these days. If you land a service job, at least you know what you're going to do next year," Russ Finklestein of Idealist.org told the publication.
Some MBA holders are even joining the Peace Corps or participating in Teach For America because of the experiences they will have attained when the economy is more stable, regardless of how much or how little they may be earning meanwhile.
A man who runs four nonprofits in Rwanda told Forbes that he had seen a 60 percent increase in job applications recently, with many inquiries coming from people who previously worked in finance and accounting.
Still, would-be nonprofit workers are warned that jobs will still competitive, especially since these organizations have generally seen fewer donors in recent months and have an increased talent pool to choose workers from.
