More minority students earn degrees at the University of Pheonix than any other university in the nation.
According to the university, 42 percent of its students are minorities, which is significantly higher than the national average. The University counts 24.6 percent of its students as African-Americans and 12.6 percent as Hispanics.
The data was first announced by the group Diverse Issues in Higher Education. The results found that University of Phoenix leads the nation in total minority graduates in both undergraduate and master's programs, including business, management and marketing.
University president Bill Pepicello said that these results are "particularly important given the current economic downturn," since along with serving more minority students, the facility also focuses on fields currently facing shortages of qualified workers, such as health care, business and information technology.
Meanwhile, numbers from the Management Leadership for Tomorrow indicate that there is still considerable room for growth in the numbers of minorities pursuing MBA degree and other studies - especially when considering the unprecedented diversity in today's markets and workforce.
The organization reports that minorities currently make up 8% of all students in the nation's top 30 MBA Programs, and that only three of them are currently represented in senior management positions.
