Many MBA students are receiving lessons in ethical issues as a way to ensure that a similar economic collapse does not occur again after the business and financial sectors were shaken to their cores in October 2008.
Some MBAs are being asked to recite ethics pledges in order to demonstrate their integrity, according to the Star-Ledger. The ethics pledge is based off of the Hippocratic Oath that is taken by doctors.
MBA instructors believe that this will be one way to instill the importance of having good ethics, as it will keep companies afloat and will help avoid scrutiny.
"One of the things were hoping to do is force hundreds of thousands of people in business to talk about and think about their responsibilities," Rich Leimsider, director of a business education center, told the news provider.
However, some students believe they should be able to have their own oath, so they don't have to worry about questioning their own integrity. Some instructors told the news provider they believe that the ethics oath is also a bit too "mushy."
If you're interested in learning more about the ethics in business, MBA programs can offer you some great insight on how to run a business without jeopardizing your integrity.
