Because many companies are doing what they can to be eco-friendly, executive positions are being created for environmental experts to help businesses figure out how to become more sustainable.
While some companies are simply hiring new experts into executive positions, others are having their CEOs step into the role, despite their lack of experience, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Sustainability officers and green supervisors are becoming a popular trend in businesses, with many focusing on public relations and corporate responsibility, in hopes of setting a good example to clients and other businesses alike.
"Ten years ago, the position I have didn't exist," Michael Kobori, vice president for social and environmental sustainability for Levi Strauss, told the news provider. "Now, we are seeing a new generation of business leaders who have grown up with sustainability. There is actually a career path in this field for someone at a corporation."
While the green MBA is becoming popular for those who want to start their own eco-friendly business, it may also serve as a stepping-stone to get into one of the sustainability officer positions, as many companies are looking for candidates who are knowledgeable in the field.
