The business leaders of tomorrow have much work to do if they intend to recapture the trust of the public, according to a recent survey.
This week, the Edelman PR firm released its annual Trust Barometer, which gauges public perceptions of the corporate world. This year, over 4,000 college-educated people who regularly follow news and current events took part in the survey.
The latest version found that 62 percent of survey respondents trust business less today than they did a year ago, and that only 38 percent now trust business to do what is right - marking a 20 percent drop since the 2007 survey.
Corporate CEOs have especially seen their public credibility shattered in light of recent financial scandals and other failures on Wall Street and elsewhere. Only 17 percent of Americans in the survey said they trust information provided by a company's CEO, and a new low of 13 percent said they trust corporate or product advertising.
More business schools are responding to the events of the past couple of years by offering programs that include ethics courses, service projects and other positive steps towards a well-rounded business education.
Earning an MBA degree can be one way to help position yourself as a responsible, up and coming business leader who will be worthy of the public's trust.
