Pursuing an MBA degree remains a popular option for many business professionals, despite a recession that has impacted the job market.
According to Iowa City's Press-Citizen newspaper, the MBA program at the nearby University of Iowa is one of the only graduate programs to avoid an overall decline in applications. Many students are said to be holding back on advanced degrees, in part because they may not be fully aware of their financial aid options.
A financial aid official for the university's MBA program told the newspaper that the application numbers were being sustained by a return to the classroom of experienced professionals who have suffered layoffs or are in danger of doing so.
Because of the recession, a growing number of business professionals have been exploring their options, both online and in the classroom, for MBA degrees.
People are doing more things than ever with MBA degrees, from working at startups and emerging technology companies to lending their skills to nonprofits. Others will complete their studies and find themselves well-positioned to advance as the economy begins to recover in the coming months.
