Some individuals who hold MBA degrees are chosen to hold executive positions because companies have faith that they can be effective leaders. Because many MBA programs offer courses in leadership and management, some businesses believe they have what it takes to effectively run a corporation.
DexCom, which develops and markets continuous glucose monitoring systems for ambulances, recently announced that Jorge Valdes will take over as the company's chief technical officer. Valdes, who has an MBA degree, has been with the business since 2005, serving as the vice president of engineering and the senior vice president of operations.
Prior to his tenure at DexCom, Valdes was the vice president of engineering at Advanced Fibre Communications (AFC). He also held various positions at Racel-Datacom Incorporated, which manufactures data communication products.
DexCom executives took note of Valdes' extensive background and felt that he would be a good fit for the new position.
"Jorge is a talented healthcare executive with a proven track record of assembling winning teams focused on building successful products and driving operational efficiencies," said Terry Gregg, DexCom's president and chief executive officer (CEO).
