Separating The Alpha From The Beta

Women who work in a male-orientated sector or are looking to move into such an industry may wish to follow the advice of one resource.

Establishing yourself as a no-nonsense and intelligent employee should set you on a level playing field in your career, says the Wall Street Journal, although you may find that undertaking an online MBA could make your resume stand out from the crowd.

Indeed, one tip that you may not be taught on an MBA program is that you should identify the beta from the alpha males - while the latter are goal orientated, beta males are more concerned about collaboration, Christopher Flett, an employment expert, tells the resource.

"Joining a male-dominated industry, like engineering, computer science or construction trades, can be intimidating. So can working in a predominantly male office. Women often struggle to figure out how to gain respect from male colleagues," the newspaper states.

An MBA could be one way to increase your confidence in the workplace and you may be encouraged to hear that according to Business Week, schools are making a more targeted effort to get female professionals into further education.
