Job references are important when looking to change careers, while such recommendations should be a mix of professional and personal contacts, it has been stated.

Lynne Sarikas, Director of the MBA Career Center at Northeastern University, notes on abc2news that five to seven references is a reasonable amount to submit, a concept you are probably well aware of.

"References are still an expected part of the job search process. Employers will ask for references and they will check them. These days most document the checking of references," Sarikas continues on the news resource.

If you have got an MBA under your belt, or have looked into studying for an online degree to boost a career change, you may be interested to hear further advice, which includes writing thank you notes for people who have taken time to help you.

Additionally, Sarikas advises you to make sure references are up-to-date, which you may realise could maintain a professional appearance and avoid any embarrassing telephone conversations with unimpressed potential employers.

In related news, online MBA provider Northeastern University reports that Law Dean Emily Spieler has been named on Barack Obama's transition team.
