Professionals working in human resources (HR) may have a new productivity challenge on their hands, after research has revealed that 55 percent of employees in the US use internet social networking sites in the office, a report says.

Furthermore, the study by 8e6 Technologies found that 72 percent of workers in the US believe that they should be given full access to such sites for personal reasons.

Commenting on the findings, the US Human Resource Management says that the internet "could have serious implications for business systems, as the most popular sites viewed at work on both sides of the Atlantic include video and applications-heavy Web 2.0 destinations, particularly social networking and news sites".

The study also discovered that 85 percent of US respondents believe that their personal internet use at work is at an acceptable level, while 34 percent admit they spend at least an hour fulfilling this habit.

Such news may be important to you if you are considering furthering your career in HR by studying for an online MBA in the sector and looking at ways to boost business productivity during the current economic storm.
