Many people who graduate with MBA degrees are finding that government jobs are their tickets to stable careers in the current economy.
In the current climate of rising unemployment, job search professionals have generally noted that healthcare and government, along with certain technical fields, are among the only industries that have tended to be actively hiring.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, MBA graduates are drawn to government jobs not just for a shot at a stable income, but also to participate in what they see as a historic transition in Washington.
"We have an opportunity to go out and be a part of the government that's going to be making new regulations that corporations are going to function by," MBA student Jeanette Jordan told the newspaper, which noted that total finance employment dropped 3.6 percent in February, while federal government jobs increased by 4.3 percent. The Journal also noted that there are about 1,000 openings for financial analysts on the federal jobs website.
If you're eyeing an MBA as a way to help ensure career stability and advancement, government jobs make sense even when a recession is not underway.
