People who earn MBA degrees with specialties in information technology may find that their services will be increasingly in demand in the coming years.
A report this week from Fox News described how hackers gained access to potentially millions of customer records handled by credit card processer Heartland Payment Systems. The company has yet to reveal how many consumers may have had their information compromised, but Fox notes that it handles about 100 million credit card transactions per month.
Fox also reported that this is expected to be the largest data breach ever, with the previous record having been 45 million stolen credit card numbers earlier this decade when hackers gained access to the TJX customer database.
The growing boldness of identity thieves and the growing presence of organized crime elements in such activities illustrate how companies will be increasingly dependent on skilled network and other highly trained professionals to keep them and their customers secure.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that employers increasingly prefer those with MBA degrees for their database administrator, network systems and data communication analyst positions. This trend is likely to become more pronounced as companies become increasingly reliant on sophisticated technologies and online tools.
