Approximately 1,500 MBA students from various business schools around the country are participating in community service projects throughout the month thanks to a special program.
TeamMBA is an annual initiative of the Graduate Management Admission Council to "recognize and support social responsibility and community" by MBA graduate students.
Some of the projects include cooking dinner at Ronald McDonald House as well as creating a model for skill development of disadvantaged groups, according to the council. In all, there will be 45 activities planned in April with more than 33 schools participating.
"Students are joining in this collective effort to demonstrate their deep commitment to their local communities and in support of helping to solve the important social issues of the day," said Melissa Knueven, organizer of the TeamMBA Month for GMAC.
If you're thinking about pursuing your own MBA degree, participating in service projects offered within your program can provide some real-world context to your business studies. Some students have found that working for nonprofits or international organizations enhanced their MBA degree, making them well-rounded for perspective employers.
