MBA degree students have been working on a program that promotes environmental sustainability while helping companies save money.
The Climate Corps program is a joint effort by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Net Impact that places MBA students in companies that would like to improve their energy efficiency. The students work for up to three months with the companies to identify and analyze ways that energy money can be saved.
The EDF website says that in 2008, Climate Corps fellows helped companies save $35 million and 120 million kilowatts of electricity. The environmental group says that companies can save approximately $40,000 for every 50,000 square feet of office space with various low-cost energy efficiency improvements.
Seven students were involved in this year's project, and they worked for leading companies like Yahoo and Cisco.
The experience earned by these students combined with their mba programs should help ensure solid career prospects for years to come. If you are interested in the environment, a growing number of educational institutions now offer master's and MBA programs in sustainability and other related topics, in anticipation of a growing public emphasis on eco-friendly products and sources of energy.
