The MBA oath that graduates are being asked to take has caused some controversy throughout both the business and academic sectors. Modeled after the Hippocratic Oath that physicians take upon completing their studies, MBAs are asked to recite a pledge that they will promise to keep their ethics in check when entering the corporate world.
As some MBA students are entering the working world after being offered positions in notable companies before they graduated, all eyes are on these individuals to ensure they're holding true to their oath, according to New York Magazine.
Larry Estrada, an MBA who will be joining Goldman Sachs as an investment advisor, told the news provider that he believes having the oath, in addition to his own morals, will help keep him in check when tempted by detrimental business decisions.
"For me, it was a stake in the ground, to say here are my values, heres what I believe in," said Estrada."When I have a tough decision, I want to be in a position where I have my own personal oath."
According to NPR, there has been some controversy over whether or not MBAs should take an oath, as some analysts believe it's just a lip service to show that MBA programs are taking financial reform into consideration.
