Stressing socially and environmentally responsible business practices, George Washington University is introducing a graduate-level Certificate in Responsible Management as an example of incorporating integrity and responsibility into action, according to the program's co-founder.
According to an article in the GW Hatchet, the program, founded by MBA student Ari Isacmaan and professor John Forrer, the certificate is modeled after the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education.
"I hope that once [students] are done with their degree and go out and study, it will be kind of an extra bonus for employees to see that this is someone who is committed to this area and spent the hours and extra time in order to earn this certificate," Forrer told the Hatchet. While GWU may be the first school to offer such a certificate, Forrer said if the program goes well, other MBA programs may use it as a model.
Students must fulfill classroom, service and extracurricular requirements in order to receive the certificate. There are currently four participants committed, and Isaacman hopes to sign up 10-20 MBA students this year, according to the article.
If you feel unethical MBAs helped aggravate the current economic crisis, and have a strong desire to fix it, maybe you should consider pursuing an MBA degree.
