With a surge in MBA students signing up due to the economic downturn, MBA programs are distinguishing themselves in various ways. As more people choose to become entrepreneurs, and take this opportunity to forge a new path, MBA programs are rising to meet their needs.
Some California colleges have changed their entrepreneurship focus to teaching students how to come up with an idea that can actually make money before it teaches them how to set up, finance and market a new venture, according to an article in the LA Times.
"We think there is a gap, particularly on the front-end process, the idea-generation phase" in entrepreneurship education, said Linda Livingstone, dean of the university's Graziadio School of Business and Management.
It is far from the only business school focusing on entrepreneurship, a subject many business schools specifically focus on. But with the business school mindset attacked by some as one of the causes of the financial crisis, a new focus is appearing in many MBA schools when it comes to entrepreneurship, according to Michael Morris, the president of the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
