One MBA program in Iowa is giving students a lesson in ethics by presenting them with a hypothetical charity donation of $1,000 and seeing what the students would use it for. The students are required to write an extensive report about a specific nonprofit organization and make an argument for why their imaginary money should go to the cause.
"The purpose of the class is to help students recognize ethical issues and develop a good decision making model to address those issues," said MBA professor, Nancy Hauserman. "This philanthropy assignment broadens their view of what constitutes an ethical situation by allowing them to see the world from another's viewpoint. That's what great leaders do, after all."
