Many MBA students decide to use the summer between their first and second year of business school to participate in an internship program to gain relevant work experience when they graduate.
Ellyn Charters, who is currently studying for her MBA, got an internship at a consulting firm called Bain and Co. in Boston last summer, according to Business Week. During the day, she says she would learn how to perform the basic responsibilities of her position. At night, social networking events would offer her the opportunity to get to know her colleagues.
Charters' first weeks on the job were intense, reports the news source. However, some of the company's experienced personnel were there to help train the interns.
Internship programs often vary in nature, meaning most MBA students can find one they like. Many institutions establish relationships with companies, both big and small, in order to provide their students with opportunities to gain work experience.
If the world of business has always fascinated you, consider enrolling in a traditional or online MBA program today. The Department of Labor says earnings increase significantly as a person's level of education rises.
