Waste Not Arizona, a nonprofit organization helping feed the hungry in the Phoenix area is benefitting from research conducted on their supply process provided by MBA students from Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business, according to the school.
The study, part of a class project, examined the supply chain processes involved in getting unused food from the local tourist resorts into the hands of local programs designed to feed the hungry.
"The ASU supply chain analysis completed for the logistics side of Waste Not was invaluable," said Dee Mitten, executive director of Waste Not Arizona. "The caliber of analysis and suggestions for improvement were well-thought out, realistic and attainable. We tremendously value and appreciate the commitment of time, energy and enthusiasm devoted to this project."
The teacher who designed the course pointed out that it was beneficial for the students, who got experience in a sector of the economy they are unlikely to otherwise encounter in their pursuit of their MBA degrees.
If finding solutions to challenging problems that improve the community you live in appeals to you, it might be time to check out the possibilities of pursuing an MBA degree.
