While an MBA degree may be a platform to achieve a more desired job within the IT industry, professionals should not solely have a higher salary in mind, it has been stated.
Speaking to Computer World, Grant Gordon, Managing Director at Intronic Solutions Group LLC, says that obtaining an advanced degree can be "a huge proponent for improving yourself if it's for your own personal development".
However, it should not be merely thought of as a "magic bullet" to increase your salary, he adds, although a recent survey by the IT resource found that the average wage for a midlevel manager with a master's degree was $99,488.
After a decade in IT, Michael Godin decided to attend Northeastern University in Boston for a master's in information assurance, he tells the forum.
But while he claims that he did not equate the degree with a wage boost, he now earns ten percent more as a professional services consultant.
If you are still unsure whether to take the education plunge, albeit with an online MBA, Erin Nickelsburg, Admissions Director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Business, tells Business Week that now could be the right time to invest in yourself.
