Kennesaw State University will launch a three-year dual-degree Master of Business Administration/Master Public Adminsitration program this fall. It will be the first dual MBA/MPA program available in the state of Georgia, according to bizjournals.com and be offered jointly by the Coles College of Business and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
"There is no longer a strong divide between the for-profit and not-for-profit and public sectors. Individuals are crossing these lines all the time now," said Teresa Joyce, associate provost and dean of the graduate college at Kennesaw State.
The economic crisis has seen a rise in MBA schools offering options aside from traditional business to those pursuing MBA degrees. Sustainable business degrees and socially conscious avenues for those holding an MBA, often in the non-profit sector, are becoming increasingly common.
Joyce pointed out that the boards of nonprofits are often composed of business people. "Elected officials make complex decisions about mergers, bankruptcies and executive pay," she said. "Individuals in the nonprofit world are experiencing an economy where an understanding of business functions such as finance and accounting is more critical than ever."
As the options increase, linking an MBA to your passion becomes easier. Maybe it is time you considered getting an MBA degree.
