If you hope to be admitted to an MBA degree program, one of your biggest challenges in the current climate may be distinguishing yourself from the competition.
While the economy has led to a nationwide upsurge of interest in MBA degrees, Bloomberg news noted this week that would-be students are also facing heavy competition from applicants in rapidly growing economies like India and China.
One way to improve your odds of being accepted to the program of your choice is to stand out, author Scott Shrum told Bloomberg.
"Schools never admit to having hard quotas, but in reality, they don't want a school 100 percent full of bankers," Shrum told the news organization. "Your toughest, most direct competition comes from the people who look most like you."
One student who was cited as standing out from his peers was David Rider of Washington, who has a background in the nonprofit industry as opposed to the banking or financial industry.
Another student looking to stand out from the crowd is Benjamin Koren, who regularly speaks three languages with his position at a Brazilian investment facility.
