Marc Fienberg, an MBA graduate from a popular California college, is preparing for the August 21st national release of Play the Game, a film comedy he wrote, directed and produced. The film, starring legendary TV actor Andy Griffith, was a labor of love which took him 12 years to bring to fruition.
Fienberg told BusinessWeek that before experiencing some of the reaction to the film, which had a successful limited release in Florida, "I never felt like I was making a difference in the world."
Fienberg had to secure all of the funding himself, and eventually did by reaching out to his fellow MBAs. According to BusinessWeek, Fienberg has raised an estimated $3 million from 15 investors, almost all of whom are fellow MBA graduates of Northwestern's Kellog school.
The article reports that the network of MBA alumni intends to work on other projects in the future.
"We're optimistic we'll be doing other things, not just in the film industry," said Chuck Funai, the chief financial officer of Cummins Southern Plains, a diesel engine distributor.
