This week, the Cleveland Plain Dealer profiled Sarah Sinclair, a 63-year old registered nurse, experienced manager and MBA who recently became the executive chief nursing officer of the Cleveland Clinic. In her role, Sinclair is responsible for managing chief nursing officers at nine Cleveland area hospitals.
The report notes that Sinclair is already working to improve patient experiences in Cleveland, and has also been credited with saving over $12 million at her previous position in Houston.
Those hoping to follow in Sinclair's footsteps as successful healthcare administrators in their own right should have ample opportunity. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that demand in this field will grow faster than average between now and 2016. Part of this is due to an increasing diversity and need for technology at healthcare institutions that will require leaders with increasingly sophisticated management skills.
