If you've got a taste for the finer things in life, chances are your MBA degree can be put to work in a compatible field like luxury management.
A recent Business Week report notes that despite the general economic downturn, applications are still going strong in the U.S. and elsewhere for MBA programs that specialize in luxury goods and services management.
The magazine spoke with student Rupal Patel of Chicago, who is spending a year at the International University of Monaco with classes like "Managing Luxury Brands" as she prepares for a career fighting counterfeiters. Patel told Business Week that she believes a specialty such as this will make her more marketable to potential employers after graduation.
The report also noted that in the short term, spending on luxury goods is expected to drop as much as seven percent, while looking ahead, the industry does very well during strong economic times. However, many students in this concentration apparently expect the economy to be better by the time they graduate, while the L'Oreal company reportedly plans to offer internships in New York to at least 21 MBA students later this month.
For many business students, the road to success begins with finding the right niche for yourself, personally and professionally. If you are interested in an MBA degree, there's no time like the present to explore the many options you have, both in the classroom and online.
