MBA students often enhance their education and get valuable career experience by working as interns for area companies. However, less attention is often paid to the fact these companies also benefit in the process.
For example, next week Vanderbilt University will be having an event where companies in the Nashville area will hear from other local companies that have had positive experiences with MBA interns, while learning more about how to get their own interns.
"MBA interns offer a timely and cost-effective way to complete important projects using a flexible resource with no long-term commitment," Joyce Rothenburg of the Owen School's Career Management was quoted as saying in a recent university publication. Rothenburg also noted that MBA interns can handle every stage of a complex assignment, providing further benefit to companies.
For many MBA students, class work is just one part of the career-changing education they will receive. Along with serving as interns at some of the nation's fastest growing or largest companies, MBA students also work as volunteers overseas or on projects such as the Small Business Institute (SBI). The SBI is available at dozens of MBA programs nationwide and gives students the opportunity to provide a public service and gain experience by assisting local companies with business plans.
