Merida Johns of the University of Alabama at Birmingham tells US News and World Report that "the job market for health informatics people is absolutely out of sight," in part because so many hospitals are in the process of switching to electronic records and need skilled professionals to oversee these efforts.
The report also notes that there are a wide range of career options under the term "health informatics," ranging from technology positions to senior management.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that demand for medical and health services managers is expected to grow faster than average between now and 2016, especially as the health care industry continues to become larger and more diverse.
There has also been speculation that any health care reforms enacted under the incoming Obama administration will fuel more demand for experienced managers and other professionals.
