Sometimes MBA students use their knowledge acquired in their program to move up the corporate ladder. Because many individuals who enter MBA programs usually have a few years of work experience before enrolling, they are able to build on their prior business knowledge and expand into leadership.
Tim Lutz, who has an MBA, was recently hired as the chief financial officer (CFO) for Xavient Information Systems, an information technology (IT) solutions company. Lutz has had previous CFO experience, serving the position at Convergys for their telecommunications software division.
Prior to the CFO appointment, Lutz served as vice president of internal audit and the chief compliance officer (CCO) for Convergys. Executives at Xavient said they believe that all of these titles and experiences helped groom Lutz to become capable of handling the CFO position for their company.
"With all his prior experience and the credibility he has achieved in the information technology industry, we are very excited to have Tim on board," said Rajeev Tandon, chief executive officer (CEO) of Xavient.
Having an MBA degree may give you the tools you need to hold an executive position one day, as many programs offer courses on how to be an effective leader.
