Online MBA Degrees Gain In Popularity

Online MBA degrees and other Internet-based offerings are gaining increased popularity and credibility, but aren't necessarily right for everyone, according to a recent report.
This week, the Associated Press offered some pointers for people who are considering an online MBA degree or some comparable program. While noting that the number of students taking an online course was up 12 percent between 2006 and 2007, to 3.9 million, the wire service noted that various important decisions still have to be made.
For example, many of the nation's most prestigious learning institutions now have online degree programs, but students may also be able to find great savings by depending on the online program they join. Students are also warned against any outfit claiming to offer quick and easy degrees and which may have things like post office boxes for mailing addresses.
The coursework is also reportedly similar to what is taught in a classroom setting, requiring students to maintain discipline even as they work at home. Finally, students may find that their online degree carries more weight than in the past because of the growing popularity of online programs at the nation's largest universities.
